Tuhai Oilfield Breaks 3,000-Meter Deep Pumping Barrier

Recently, the pump setting depth at Well Yubei 20-9 in the Lukiqin Oil Production Management Area of Tuhai Oilfield successfully reached 3,213 meters, breaking through the long-standing technical barrier of 3,000 meters for rod-pump lifting systems. This achievement sets a new record for lifting depth using this technology within China National Petroleum Corporation and provides a replicable technical solution for efficiently developing deep reserves in mature oilfields.
Currently, development of mature areas in Tuhai Oilfield has entered the mid-to-late stage, with increasingly evident challenges such as deep reservoir burial, insufficient formation energy, and difficulties in economically exploiting deep reserves. Due to limitations imposed by the rated load capacity of pumping units and the strength of sucker rod strings, achieving pump depths beyond 3,000 meters has generally been difficult, forming a common technical bottleneck for deep-reservoir development.
To overcome this challenge, the Mechanical Production Project Team at Tuhai Oilfield's Production Technology Research Institute broke free from conventional thinking and returned to fundamental principles of reservoir development. After six months of extensive data analysis, theoretical calculations, and repeated validation, they achieved a breakthrough in technology.
During the field trial phase, the technical team implemented precise "one-well-one-strategy" management, covering everything from matching lifting system conditions to dynamic adjustment of surface pumping unit parameters, and closely monitored daily operational performance. To date, four deep-lift wells in the Yubei Block have an average pump setting depth of 3,110 meters and have operated stably for over 60 days. All production parameters meet expectations, providing initial confirmation of the adaptability and reliability of the solid-rod deep-lift technology for beam pumps.
